Korčula
Korčula is a 47 km sliver of an island with two ports at opposite ends and a completely different transport system depending on which one you land at. Korčula Town, at the eastern tip, is where every catamaran goes: sixteen routes call there and only one of them takes cars. Vela Luka, 40 km west, is where the Split car ferry goes. The split matters because the island bus between them runs about seven times a day in summer and barely at all in winter. The cheapest way in is the state-subsidised fast lines – 9608 to Split via Hvar at €12.80 in season, 9808 to Dubrovnik at €13.55 – which run all year and leave Korčula Town before dawn; the commercial catamarans, Krilo and TP Line, are more comfortable and more than twice the price at €30 from Split, and only sail April to October. The short hop most visitors miss is the 15-minute passenger boat from Orebić on the Pelješac peninsula, a couple of euros, straight onto the old town waterfront – as against the car ferry from Orebić to Dominče, which is 20 minutes and lands you 3 km out of town. Since the Pelješac bridge opened in July 2022, driving from Dubrovnik no longer means crossing Bosnia at Neum, though cyclists are banned from the bridge and still have to. Taxi boats run out to Badija and Lumbarda in summer, bikes cost about €12 a day and scooters from €26. From November to April the whole thing contracts: Korčula Town handles 76 to 85 sailings a day in high season and as few as six in low.

9 ways of moving, each with its rule
We confirmed seven ways of moving to, from or around Korčula: five by water, one by road and one under your own steam, from 33 sources. Two entries are not a service at all but a rule that decides whether travel happens: a permit, a closure, a border, a season or an authority's say-so. One of them runs only on demand or when the seats are full, so there is no timetable to show; the rule is written where the timetable would be. One needs a phone call or a message before you turn up.
The fares were seen in 2025 to 2026; a fare from an older year is a floor, not a price. We rate 5 of the 9 high confidence, our own judgement of the sources. The entry was checked on 22 September 2026, and ends with nine things we could not confirm.
By water
The year-round state catamarans to Korčula Town
Line 9608 Korčula – Prigradica – Hvar – Split; line 9808 Ubli (Lastovo) – Korčula – Sobra (Mljet) – Dubrovnik; line 9807 Ubli – Korčula – Polače – Sobra – Šipanska Luka – Dubrovnik in summer
These are the lines islanders use, contracted by the state and priced accordingly – roughly a third of what the commercial catamarans charge. All of them berth in Korčula Town itself, at Obala dr. Franje Tuđmana on the west side of the old walls, a two-minute walk from the town gate. They are operated by TP Line, which sells online through webshop.tp-line.hr and publishes each line's timetable and full price list as a PDF from tp-line.hr/en. Be at the quay at least 15 minutes before departure. The catch is the hour: line 9608 leaves Korčula at 06:00 for Split every day of the year, and 9808 leaves Ubli at 06:00 and calls at Korčula at 07:40 for Dubrovnik. These are working boats aimed at getting islanders to a mainland appointment and home again the same evening, which is exactly what makes them useful. Foot passengers only – no cars. If 9608 is cancelled in bad weather, the Jadrolinija car ferry on route 604 from Ubli to Split is scheduled to call at Hvar instead, weather permitting.
- When
- 9608 runs daily; off-season one morning sailing plus a second at 13:00 on Sundays and holidays, in season one daily each way with a Prigradica call. 9808 runs daily all year, one round trip, with extra evening departures from Dubrovnik in season. 9807 adds a Šipan and Polače routing, mostly late May to September
- Takes
- Korčula to Split 2 hours 25 minutes off-season, 2 hours 40 minutes in season via Prigradica. Korčula to Dubrovnik 2 hours 10 minutes. Korčula to Ubli on Lastovo about 1 hour 40 minutes
- Fare 2026
- 2026 one way. Line 9608: Split–Korčula €9.30 off-season, €12.80 in season; Hvar–Korčula €6.40 / €11.40; island residents €7.20 Split–Korčula; children 3–12 €6.10. Line 9808: Korčula–Dubrovnik €10.20 off-season, €13.55 in season; residents €7.90; children €6.50; Ubli–Dubrovnik €10.90 / €14.25. Season runs 29 May to 27 September
SeasonYear-round – this is the point of them. 9808 does not run on 1 January, 20 April or 25 December. Bookingwebshop.tp-line.hr, or at the quayside kiosk. Timetable and price PDFs at tp-line.hr/en. Arrive 15 minutes before departure. Run byTP Line (vessels HSC Proversa, MB Anastazija), under state contract.
The summer commercial catamarans from Split and Dubrovnik
Krilo line Split – Brač (Milna) – Hvar – Korčula – Mljet (Pomena) – Dubrovnik, and Split – Hvar – Korčula; TP Line 842 Dubrovnik – Korčula – Hvar – Milna – Split, 654 Split – Milna – Hvar – Korčula – Dubrovnik and 661 Split – Hvar – Korčula
Four or five fast boats a day in high summer, all berthing at Korčula Town on the west quay. Krilo, whose legal name is Kapetan Luka, sells at krilo.hr and its schedule page carries the whole timetable and every point-to-point price; its Split–Dubrovnik boat, the Krilo Carbo, leaves Split at 08:00, reaches Korčula at 10:30 and Dubrovnik at 12:40, and comes back the same afternoon leaving Dubrovnik at 15:30 and Korčula at 17:40. TP Line's 842 runs the same corridor the other way round, leaving Dubrovnik at 08:00 and reaching Korčula at 10:00. These boats are bigger, have a bar and reserved seating, and cost two to three times the state lines – you are paying for a daytime departure at a civilised hour rather than a 06:00 one. Book online well ahead in July and August; the Split–Dubrovnik legs sell out. Every one of them stops running some time in October.
- When
- Krilo Split–Milna–Hvar–Korčula–Pomena–Dubrovnik daily 1 April to 31 October 2026; Krilo Split–Hvar–Korčula daily 1 May to 15 October, Split 10:45, Korčula 13:15, back at 13:45. TP Line 842 daily 1 April to 31 October; TP Line 654 daily 8 May to 18 October; TP Line 661 daily 15 June to 20 September
- Takes
- Split to Korčula 2 hours 30 minutes on the Krilo Carbo, 2 hours 45 minutes on TP Line 661; Korčula to Dubrovnik 2 hours 10 minutes; Hvar to Korčula about 1 hour 20 minutes
- Fare 2026
- 2026 one way. Krilo: Split–Korčula €30, Hvar–Korčula €25, Korčula–Dubrovnik €25, Korčula–Mljet (Pomena) €20, Brač (Milna)–Korčula €25. TP Line 842 and 654: Split–Korčula €30, Hvar–Korčula €25, Korčula–Dubrovnik €27.50, Milna–Korčula €25. Children under 3 free, 3–12 half price, pets in a carrier half price
SeasonApril to late October only. Nothing in this group sails in winter. Bookingkrilo.hr and webshop.tp-line.hr. Book ahead for July and August. Run byKrilo / Kapetan Luka (Krilo Carbo, Krilo Nomadic); TP Line (Borik, Puntin).
The Orebić crossings: passenger boat to the old town, car ferry to Dominče
Orebić (Pelješac peninsula) to Korčula Town, foot passengers, line 614; and Orebić to Dominče, cars and passengers, line 634
This is the short hop across the channel, and most visitors only find out afterwards that there are two of them. The passenger boat, line 614, run by G&V Line Iadera on the Zvijezda Kvarnera, takes 15 minutes and lands you directly on the Korčula Town waterfront; it takes bicycles and pets but no cars. The car ferry, line 634, run by Jadrolinija on the Sveti Krševan, takes 20 minutes and lands at Dominče, a workaday suburb 3 km east of the old town with the petrol station and the shipyard – there is a local bus from there into town and on to Lumbarda, and the long-distance coaches from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik drive straight onto this ferry, so if you arrive by bus you stay in your seat and it delivers you to the town bus station. If you are on foot, always take the passenger boat: it is cheaper, more frequent in summer and it saves you the walk. Both run seven days a week all year. Timetables for both are printed side by side by the Orebić tourist board, which is the easiest place to read them – the operators' own site, jadrolinija.hr, is often the only place with the current fares.
- When
- Car ferry 634: 14 crossings a day off-season, 20 in low season and up to 22 a day in high summer, roughly hourly through the day with a 00:10 and an 05:10 sailing at the edges. Passenger boat 614: 8 crossings a day Monday to Friday off-season but only 2 on Saturdays and 2 on Sundays; 11 or 12 a day in June and September; 16 a day in July and August, the last at 23:20
- Takes
- Passenger boat 15 minutes; car ferry 20 minutes
- Fare 2025
- Passenger boat 614: €3.05 high season, €2.12 low season, bicycles the same. Car ferry 634: foot passenger €3.99 / €2.26, car up to 5 m €14.71 / €9.42, motorcycle €5.78 / €3.32, bicycle €3.99 / €2.26, camper up to 5 m €21.21 / €14.86. These are the figures listed by CroatiaFerries; the official price sheets are published by the Croatian coastal shipping agency
SeasonBoth year-round, seven days a week. The passenger boat all but disappears at weekends between October and May. BookingNot needed for foot passengers – buy at the kiosk on the quay. Book the car ferry ahead in July and August. Run byG&V Line Iadera (line 614); Jadrolinija (line 634).
Split to Vela Luka, the car ferry at the other end of the island
Split to Vela Luka on the western tip of Korčula, continuing to Ubli on Lastovo – car ferry line 604 and fast catamaran line 9604
If you are bringing a car from Split, this is the only way onto Korčula that does not involve driving the whole length of the Pelješac peninsula. The ferry is the Vladimir Nazor, sailing from Split's main ferry terminal and landing at Vela Luka, a real working town with its own shops and restaurants – but 40 km and about an hour by bus from Korčula Town, so plan the onward leg before you sail. Book the car space in advance for July and August: demand exceeds capacity and drive-up spaces disappear. The same route also carries a foot-passenger catamaran, line 9604, which is quicker and much cheaper but drops you in the same place. Vela Luka also has its own summer boat out to the island of Proizd. Cyclists should note the ferry takes bikes for the price of a foot passenger.
- When
- Car ferry 604 two or three round trips a day all year – in January departures from Split at 10:30 and 15:00, in July at 10:15 and 17:30. Catamaran 9604 daily, one round trip: off-season Vela Luka 05:20 to Split 07:25, Split 14:00 back to Vela Luka at 16:05; in season Vela Luka 05:20 to Split 07:30, Split 15:00 back at 17:10. There is a later Sunday and holiday sailing from Ubli and Vela Luka
- Takes
- Car ferry 2 hours 45 minutes in summer, up to 3 hours 30 minutes on the winter routing; catamaran 2 hours 5 to 2 hours 20 minutes
- Fare 2026
- Catamaran 9604, 2026 official prices: Split–Vela Luka €7.90 off-season, €11.00 in season, island residents €4.40, children 3–12 €4.70; Vela Luka–Ubli €5.00 / €8.50. Car ferry 604 as listed by CroatiaFerries: foot passenger €9.83 high / €7.17 low, car up to 5 m €67.00 / €50.83, motorcycle €22.63 / €17.39, bicycle €9.83 / €7.17
SeasonYear-round. Season pricing runs 29 May to 27 September. BookingCar space should be booked ahead through Jadrolinija for July and August. Foot passengers buy at the terminal. Run byJadrolinija (MF Vladimir Nazor on 604, Catamaran Adriana on 9604).
Taxi boats to Badija, Vrnik and Lumbarda
Korčula Town east port to the Škoji islets – Badija, Vrnik, Stupe – and along the coast to Lumbarda; Vela Luka to Proizd
Walk to the east port, Punta Jurana on Obala Korčulanskih Brodograditelja, next to the Konzum supermarket and the bus stop – coordinates 42.9598, 17.1357. There is no booking and no ticket office: the skippers sit with their boats and you get into whichever one is next to leave for where you want to go. The boats hold ten or twelve people and go when they have a load. Badija, with its Franciscan monastery and resident deer, and Vrnik, the quarry island the old town was built from, are ten minutes out. Lumbarda is the sand-beach village at the eastern tip and the water taxi is the pleasant way there in summer, though the bus is far cheaper. Several skippers also sell a hop-on hop-off day ticket covering the whole archipelago, which is the best value if you want more than one islet. From Vela Luka at the other end of the island a separate seasonal boat runs to Proizd. First boats leave Korčula around 08:00 and the last returns between 16:00 and 19:00 depending on season and weather.
- When
- On demand through the day in summer, roughly 08:00 to 19:00; nothing scheduled, boats go when full
- Takes
- About 10 minutes to Badija or Vrnik, 15–20 minutes to Lumbarda
- Fare 2026
- Korčula Town to Badija about €6 one way and Korčula to Lumbarda about €10 one way; the actual fare depends on the boat, the weather and the season, and a hop-on hop-off day ticket is better value for more than one stop
SeasonSummer only – roughly May to October, and weather dependent. BookingNone needed. Turn up at the east port pier and take the next boat. Run byIndependent local skippers; a shared last-minute number is +385 91 444 8886.
By road
The island bus: Vela Luka – Blato – Smokvica – Korčula Town
Korčula Town bus station to Žrnovo, Pupnat, Čara, Smokvica, Blato and Vela Luka; plus the short local runs to Lumbarda, Dominče and Račišće
The bus station is at Porat bb, on the harbour just outside the south-east corner of the old town, next to the Konzum and the water-taxi pier. Everything on the island is run by Autotrans, part of the Arriva group, and you can price and book any departure at arriva.com.hr – the journey search at /en-us/choose-your-journey returns the full day's departures with fares. Tickets can also be bought from the driver. One road runs the length of the island and every cross-island bus uses it. There is no wheelchair-accessible bus on Korčula. Long-distance coaches from Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik and Sarajevo use the same station and reach the island by driving onto the Orebić car ferry. Sunday and winter services are much thinner than the timetable boards suggest – see the winter entry below.
- When
- Korčula Town to Vela Luka about seven or eight departures a day Monday to Friday in season, six on Saturday, five on Sunday, first at 04:10 and last at 18:30. Korčula to Lumbarda about ten a day, roughly hourly 07:00 to 18:45. Račišće weekdays only. Dubrovnik to Korčula one coach a day at 15:00, up to three in high season
- Takes
- Korčula Town to Vela Luka 1 hour 5 minutes; Korčula to Lumbarda 15 minutes; Dubrovnik to Korčula 3 hours 25 minutes
- Fare 2026
- Korčula Town to Vela Luka €6.70, or €7.10 on the 06:00 departure; Korčula to Lumbarda €2.70; Dubrovnik to Korčula €16.00, all one way, quoted by Arriva's own booking system for 25 September 2026
SeasonYear-round, but the number of departures roughly halves outside the summer. Bookingarriva.com.hr, the Arriva Croatia app, the ticket office at Korčula bus station (+385 20 71 12 16) or from the driver. Vela Luka station +385 20 81 20 78. Run byAutotrans d.d., part of Arriva Croatia.
Rules, permits and closures
The Pelješac bridge, and the Neum corridor it lets you skip
Komarna on the Croatian mainland to Brijesta on the Pelješac peninsula, then 65 km down the peninsula to Orebić; the old route runs through the Bosnian strip at Neum
Dubrovnik and the Pelješac peninsula used to be cut off from the rest of Croatia by a 9 km strip of Bosnia and Herzegovina around Neum, so the drive north meant two border posts each way, with queues of an hour at the height of summer. The Pelješac bridge opened on 26 July 2022 – 2,404 metres, four lanes, 55 m high – and you can now drive from Split to Orebić and the Korčula ferry without leaving Croatia or the EU. Two things still catch people out. First, cyclists and pedestrians are banned from the bridge and there is no stopping on it, so if you are cycling you either still cross at Neum or take the Ploče to Trpanj car ferry, which lands you on the peninsula and bypasses the strip in 60 minutes. Second, if you do use Neum with a hire car, you must have insurance valid in Bosnia and there is nowhere at those two crossings to buy it; Croatian hire firms charge an out-of-EU surcharge for every day of the rental, not just the day you cross. The crossings are Klek/Neum 1 at the north-west end and Zaton Doli/Neum 2 at the south-east; Imotica, on the minor road, is for locals only. Have your passport out of the suitcase – that, not paperwork problems, is what holds buses up. Beyond the bridge the peninsula road is an old two-lane highway now carrying far more traffic than it was built for, so allow more time than the distance suggests.
- When
- Open continuously. Ploče–Trpanj car ferry three round trips a day off-season and four in high season, 60 minutes
- Takes
- Dubrovnik to Orebić about 2 hours 15 minutes by road; Dubrovnik to Korčula by coach 3 hours 25 minutes including the ferry
- Fare 2026
- No toll was being charged on the bridge itself when Wikivoyage last checked; you pay the ordinary Croatian motorway tolls on the approach. A passport is required to transit Neum; most nationalities need no visa for Bosnia and Herzegovina
SeasonYear-round. Neum queues were a summer problem before the bridge and have largely gone since. BookingNone for the bridge. Ploče–Trpanj ferry tickets at the pier. Run byHrvatske ceste (bridge); Jadrolinija (Ploče–Trpanj ferry).
The winter timetable collapse, and how to plan around it
Every route to and from the island between late October and April
Korčula Town handles 76 to 85 sailings a day in high season and as few as six in low season, and that single figure explains most of what goes wrong with winter trips here. What stops entirely: every commercial catamaran – Krilo's Split and Dubrovnik boats finish on 31 October and 15 October, TP Line's 842 on 31 October, 654 on 18 October and 661 on 20 September. What thins out badly: the Orebić passenger boat, which runs eight times a day Monday to Friday off-season but only twice on a Saturday and twice on a Sunday; and the island bus, where Arriva's booking system offered seven Korčula to Vela Luka departures on 25 September 2026 and just one, the 06:40, on 20 January 2027. What keeps running: the state fast lines 9608 to Split and 9808 to Dubrovnik, both daily all year; the Orebić to Dominče car ferry, fourteen crossings a day; the Split to Vela Luka car ferry, two or three a day; and the coach from Dubrovnik. So a winter trip works, but it works on islanders' hours – you leave Korčula at 06:00 and come back at 18:25, and if you miss it there is no second boat. Weather cancels sailings too: the small passenger boats are the first to be pulled, and the schedules carry explicit notes about what happens then, including 9608's fallback of routing the Ubli car ferry via Hvar. Check tp-line.hr, the vessel-position tracker at tp-line.hr/en/vessel-positions and jadrolinija.hr the night before.
- When
- Off-season is officially 1 January to 28 May and 28 September to 31 December on the state lines
- Takes
- n/a
- Fare 2026
- Off-season fares are lower on the state lines – Split to Korčula €9.30 instead of €12.80 – and the commercial boats simply are not there to be bought
SeasonLate October to April. BookingNot usually necessary in winter, but check the day before for weather cancellations. Run byTP Line, Jadrolinija, G&V Line Iadera, Autotrans.
On foot, by bike, or otherwise
Scooters, bicycles, hire cars and the town electric shuttle
Korčula Town and the villages
The old town is walled and pedestrian-only and takes ten minutes to cross on foot, so nothing motorised helps inside it. Outside, a scooter is the practical way to reach the southern bays and the inland villages that no bus serves; agencies in Korčula Town rent them and most will deliver to your accommodation. You need a passport or ID card and a driving licence – for a 49.5 cc machine an ordinary car licence is enough, not a motorcycle one. A bicycle is the better choice along the flat coast road to Lumbarda and out to Račišće; the island is 47 km long with one tarmac spine, and the hills above Smokvica and Pupnat are for stronger legs. Car hire is available in town but is only worth it for a longer stay or for the western end. Cars must be left in the car parks outside the walls, which fill up in July and August; the Tommy business centre car park is about ten minutes' walk away and there is a free council electric shuttle running between the outer car parks and the old town gate, useful in the heat and also for getting between the ferry berths and the bus station with luggage.
- When
- Hire on demand, daily in season. The electric shuttle runs through the day in summer
- Takes
- Korčula Town to Lumbarda 20 minutes by scooter, about 40 minutes by bicycle
- Fare 2026
- Scooter from €15 for up to 4 hours, €26 a day, €69 for three days, €149 a week. Bicycle about €12 a day. The electric shuttle from the car parks is free
SeasonMainly Easter to October; winter rental is by arrangement. BookingWalk in, or pre-book through a town agency for a better rate and for delivery to your hotel. Run byLocal agencies in Korčula Town; the shuttle is run by the town authority.
What we could not find out
9 things the researcher looked for and did not find, in their own words, with where to ask instead. None of this goes into the planner; it stays here until someone confirms it.
- 01
Jadrolinija refused connections from this network again, exactly as the brief warned – jadrolinija.hr resolves to 185.155.225.30 and every request, by curl and by fetch, returned ECONNREFUSED. So no Jadrolinija fare or timetable in this file comes from Jadrolinija. Worse, the Croatian state agency that publishes the official price sheets for the subsidised lines, agencija-zolpp.hr (85.209.13.85), is also unreachable from here, and so is the ministry at mmpi.gov.hr. The Orebić tourist board links straight to the ZOLPP PDFs for lines 614, 634, 604 and 832, and those links are the right place to get authoritative prices when the host is reachable.
- 02
Because of that, the fares for the Orebić–Korčula passenger boat (614), the Orebić–Dominče car ferry (634) and the Split–Vela Luka car ferry (604) are taken from CroatiaFerries, a third-party aggregator, and are marked fare_year 2025. Its figure for catamaran 9604 Split–Vela Luka (€9.03 high season) is already out of step with the official 2026 sheet (€11.00), which suggests its whole price table is a year behind. Treat the car ferry numbers as indicative and confirm at the kiosk.
- 03
Correction to the brief: the Orebić to Korčula Town passenger boat is not a Jadrolinija service. Line 614 is operated by G&V Line Iadera with the vessel Zvijezda Kvarnera, per the Orebić tourist board's own schedule page. Jadrolinija runs the Orebić–Dominče car ferry, line 634.
- 04
Correction to Wikivoyage: its Korčula article still prices the Orebić hop at €2 and the cross-island bus at €6, and says the Orebić ferry 'goes every hour, except in the night between 00:00-04:00'. The passenger boat is now €2.12 to €3.05, the bus is €6.70 to €7.10, and the passenger boat runs only twice a day at weekends from October to May. The article also still lists a Drvenik to Korčula ferry at 08:30 and 17:30, which does not appear in any 2026 timetable found here.
- 05
Krilo's schedule page is a usable data endpoint. The routes array sits inside the Next.js RSC payload on https://krilo.hr/en/schedule: concatenate the self.__next_f.push string chunks, find "routes":[ and JSON-decode from there. Each route carries stops, defaultVessel, a prices map keyed by "A-B" pairs, specialPriceLists, and periods with dateFrom/dateTo and outbound/return trips each holding daysOfWeek, excludeDates, includeDates, cancelledDates and stopTimes. In September 2026 all six routes had empty daysOfWeek and cancelledDates arrays, so the exception machinery exists but is currently unused.
- 06
Arriva Croatia is a second usable endpoint. POST to https://www.arriva.com.hr/en-us/choose-your-journey with form fields post-type=shop, currentstepnumber=1, search-from, search-to, search-datetime (dd.mm.yyyy.) and ticket-type=oneway, and the HTML that comes back lists every departure that day with times, journey duration, carrier and the standard fare in euro. It works for any date, which is how the winter comparison in this file was made.
- 07
TP Line publishes per-line PDFs at stable paths under https://www.tp-line.hr/files/cjenici/ – some prefixed with a timestamp, some not – and they carry both the seasonal timetable and a full price list including island-resident and child fares. They are the best open substitute for the blocked ZOLPP sheets for the state fast lines.
- 08
Not confirmed: whether the Pelješac bridge now charges a toll. Wikivoyage's account dates from the bridge's first months and says there was none. Hrvatske ceste was not checked.
- 09
Not confirmed: the timetable and operator of the Korčula Town electric shuttle, and whether Lumbarda's water taxi runs to a schedule. The taxi-boat prices on korculainfo are still quoted in kuna, which Croatia stopped using in 2023, so the euro figures used here come from CroatiaFerries instead.
