Zhangjiajie
Zhangjiajie is a prefecture-level city in the northwestern part of Hunan Province, China.
It comprises the district of Yongding, Wulingyuan and counties of Cili and Sangzhi. It contains the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, part of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992.
Getting to Zhangjiajie
Zhangjiajie is about 250 km (155 mi) northwest of Changsha.

Things to do
Zhangjiajie is the entry point for trips to two stunning nearby sites: Tianmen Mountain and Wulingyuan Scenic Area. There are also some less prominent natural attractions in the area.
Where to eat
There are limited food options in the park, and what is available is offered at highly inflated prices. It is advised that you bring food and water with you to the park. Here is a selection of food in the city, which can be visited after a scenic tour.

Getting around Zhangjiajie the local way
- Get inIn Zhangjiajie, you buy a ticket which entitles you to either a cable car ride all the way up the mountain and a ride on the shorter express cable car and then a bus ride down ("A Line"), or the reverse ("B Line").
- Get inDuring cable car maintenence, or in days of increased demand, there can also be "C line" that involves using the bus and the newer cable car both ways.
- Get inIt is also possible to purchase additional tickets (much cheaper) for a second cable car or an escalator atop the mountain, but the mountain can be perfectly enjoyed without these.
- Get inThe older cable car from city centre takes about 15 minutes to go up or down the mountain and takes you to a plateau above the famous gate.
- Get inThe bus plus the newer cable car take maybe 40 minutes, including buses in the middle of the route.
- Get inKeep in mind that this is a very popular site, and you could easily wait an hour in line for either the bus or cable car.
- Get inIf you take the bus + the newer cable car up, the queue is said to be somewhat smaller.
- Get aroundThe old cable car connects to the top of the mountain.
