Mixroutes is built on open data and public information. These are the people and organisations behind it, and the terms we use their work under.

Timetables

Train, bus, metro and ferry timetables come from the operators' own published feeds in the GTFS format. Many reach us through Transitous, which gathers them; every feed it carries, with its publisher and licence, is listed on transitous.org/sources.

Maps, roads and places

  • Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). Map tiles by OpenFreeMap using the OpenMapTiles schema.
  • Driving routes and times are computed on OpenStreetMap roads with OSRM.
  • Ferry and shared-taxi routes are compiled by Mixroutes from OpenStreetMap (ODbL).
  • Place names and positions: GeoNames, under CC BY 4.0, and place search by Photon on OpenStreetMap data.
  • Airports: OurAirports (public domain). Typical flight routes: OpenFlights (ODbL), a 2014 snapshot, so we show flights as typical times, never as a timetable.

Travel advice, alerts and entry rules

  • UK travel advice: Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
  • US travel advisories: US Department of State (public domain).
  • Disaster alerts: GDACS, the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (European Commission JRC and UN OCHA).
  • Visa guidance: passport-index-data (dated 17 February 2026). It is a guide only; we always link the official entry rules, and you should check them before you travel.

Words and photographs

  • Things to do and local transport notes quote Wikivoyage, under CC BY-SA 4.0; each quote links its article.
  • Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons. Each one is credited where it appears, with its author and licence; follow the credit to the file page for the full terms.

Fares

Fares are stated as facts with their source: operators' published fare tables, government fare rules and public rate cards. We add nothing to any fare, and every price says whether it is live, the operator's fare or our estimate.
