Lviv

Lviv is the fifth-largest city in Ukraine, as well as the largest city in the western part of the country, with a population of 723,403.

It serves as the administrative center of Lviv Oblast and Lviv Raion, and is one of the main cultural centers of Ukraine. The city also hosts the administration of Lviv urban hromada. Lviv was named after Leo I of Galicia, the eldest son of Daniel, King of Ruthenia. During its history the city has had several names.

Getting to Lviv

Due to the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukraine's airspace is closed to civil aviation. The closest operating airports are in Poland. From the airport, take a train or a bus to Lviv, that will bring you into Ukraine across the border. Jasionka International Airport RZE IATA is a 4-hour train trip to Lviv. Krakow Airport KRK IATA is a 6-hour train trip to Lviv. Lublin Airport LUZ IATA is an 8-hour train trip to Lviv.

Things to do

Attend a concert or festival. Lviv has been called the "Queen of Festivals" as a city, because there is often a different festival every other week. Some festivals with many free activities are the Chocolate Festival, the Coffee Festival, and the Alpha Jazz Festival. Stop by the Tourist Information Center on Rynok Square to find out more about what festivals are happening during your stay in Lviv.

Where to eat

Life in Lviv is very cheap. It's not difficult to find a place where you can have a full meal for 200 UAH. The challenge is rather ordering if you don't speak Ukrainian.
