
Haiphong
Haiphong or Hai Phong is the third-largest city in Vietnam, with an area of 3,194.72 km2 (1,233.49 mi2).
It includes Bạch Long Vĩ and Cát Bà islands in the Gulf of Tonkin. Haiphong has a population of 4,664,124 in 2025. Haiphong holds the historical distinction of being the first city in both Vietnam and Mainland Southeast Asia to be electrified.

Where to eat
Stalls about town offer the normal array of Vietnamese cuisine. Local specials include anything cua (crab) or seafood, for example: "bánh đa cua"- noodle soup with crab and other traditional Vietnamese ingredients. Delicious. Try it once and you won't forget it!
Getting around Haiphong the local way
- Get inA number of ferries serve Haiphong, including several daily fast hydrofoils to and from Cat Ba Island.
- Get aroundAt the port (city centre, Ben Binh St) ferries depart to Cat Ba Island (up to 100,000 dong) To visit Đồ Sơn Beach, about 20 km southeast of Haiphong, go to Lạch Tray St and board any bus marked Đồ Sơn (17,000 dong).
