Located in the central part of Anatolia, the city has a population of over 5.3 million residents in its urban center, out of 6 million residents in Ankara Province. Ankara is Turkey's second-largest city by population after Istanbul.

Where to eat
Ankara has a variety of local/traditional and international food restaurants such as Asian, French, Italian, Persian and Somalian cuisine throughout the city. Kızılay has a pedestrianised block full of little cafes and takeaways. It's east of Atatürk Blv and north of Ziya Gökalp Cd. Çiğ köfte and regular köfte carts/shops could be found all over the city for a quick snack.

Getting around Ankara the local way
- Get inThe main services are from Kurtulan and Diyarbakir (Güney Kurtalan Ekspresi), from Kars and Erzurum (Doğu Ekspresi), and from Tatvan (Van Gölü Ekspresi), linked by dolmus or ferry to Van.
- Get aroundKızılay and Ulus are both hubs for privately operated minibuses and dolmuş, which usually display a list of destinations on a board behind the windscreen - if in doubt, ask the driver.
