Yan'an
Yan'an is a prefecture-level city in the Shaanbei region of Shaanxi province, China, bordering Shanxi to the east and Gansu to the west.
It administers several counties, including Zhidan, which served as the headquarters of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) before the city of Yan'an proper took that role.

Worth seeing
In the city center you can find numerous yaodongs, caves dug into hillsides that serve as traditional homes. In and around Yan'an there are several spots related to the history of the Chinese Communist Party. The place where Mao and his comrades lived and worked, places where party conferences were held and many more. Phoenix Hill (凤凰山).
