Taizhou
Taizhou is a city located at the middle of the East China Sea coast of Zhejiang province.
It is located 300 km (190 mi) south of Shanghai and 230 km (140 mi) southeast of Hangzhou, the provincial capital. It is bordered by Ningbo to the north, Wenzhou to the south, and Shaoxing, Jinhua, and Lishui to west. In addition to the municipality itself, the prefecture-level city of Taizhou includes 3 districts, 3 county-level cities, and 3 counties.
As of the 2020 census, its total population was 6,662,888 inhabitants whom 3,578,660 lived in the built-up area made of the three urban Districts and Wenling City now being largely conurbated.
Getting to Taizhou
- 01Taizhou Station
On the Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou high-speed rail line, this has frequent service to a variety of cities in southern China.
- 02Linhai Station
Linhai district is served by its own station on the same high-speed line, although with less service than Taizhou Station.
- 03Taizhou Luqiao
This airport has a few flights to major domestic destinations.
Worth seeing
Linhai district has a gorgeous old town, ringed by a nearly-complete city wall that climbs along the top of a ridge, advertized locally as the Southern Great Wall. There is also an East Lake (东湖) nearby, and long old streets. Linhai has its own stop on the high-speed rail line, northeast of town.

Things to do
Enjoy some streetside barbeque in Huangyan District's Night Market, where various trinkets and articles of clothing can also be found. Just say to any taxi driver "ye shi" (sounds like "yeh sure") and you'll get there. The eggplant is highly recommended.

Where to eat
Sanmen Green Crab Sanmen Green Crab is one of the most famous seafood dishes in Taizhou, prized for its tender and succulent meat. Green crabs are a common dish at local family tables and a highlight in various banquets. Popular preparations include steaming, stir-frying with ginger and scallions, or spicy crab dishes, all of which preserve the natural sweetness of the crab.
