
Sankt Augustin
Sankt Augustin is a town in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
It is named after the patron saint of the Steyler missionaries, Saint Augustine of Hippo (354-430). The missionaries established the "Saint Augustine Monastery" near the current town centre in 1913. The municipality of Sankt Augustin was established in 1969, and on September 6, 1977, Sankt Augustin acquired town privileges. Sankt Augustin is situated about 8 km northeast of Bonn and 8 km southwest of Siegburg. Sankt Augustin belongs to the economic region of Bonn/Rhein-Sieg as well as the scientific region of Bonn. With over 59,000 inhabitants, it is the second-largest town in the Rhein-Sieg district.
Getting to Sankt Augustin
Getting to Sankt Augustin is quite easy, as its infrastructure of traffic is excellent. Sankt Augustin is connected to Siegburg and Bonn by the tram 66 "Telekom Express" which runs each 10 minutes. Limited service in the early morning, late evening, or the weekend. The tramline offers several stops within the city limits. To visit the city centre use the exits "Kloster" or "Markt".
Worth seeing
Siegaue. The Siegaue follows the river Sieg north of the town. Here you can go by bike or just have a walk. Schloß Birlinghoven. the castle in Birlinghoven's forest is a nice one. It today belongs to the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft for aritmethics, so you normally just can see it from outside. But if you have the chance to get in it, do it! Steyler Mission.

Getting around Sankt Augustin the local way
- Get inBy boat, you can reach Königswinter with the tourist boats on the Rhine and by ferry from Bonn Mehlem, but this is not useful only if you live in Bonn.
