Ponmudi
Ponmudi is a hill station in the Peringamala gramapanchayath of Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala in India.
It is located 22km west of Vithura town, 53 km north-east of Thiruvananthapuram City, 78 km south-east of Varkala town and 69 km north-east of Kovalam Beach at an altitude of 1,100 m (3,600 ft). Ponmudi (Varayadumotta) peak is a part of the Western Ghats mountain range that runs parallel to the Arabian Sea. Ponmudi is a popular honeymoon destination in South India. The normal temperature of Ponmudi is between 14 and 25 °C. During the winter season, the temperature drops between 10 and 19 °C especially during the night time. The lowest temperature in Ponmudi ever recorded is 8°C.
Getting to Ponmudi
The nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport, at a distance of more than 62 km. Govt. Buses (KSRTC) ply from the main bus stand in Trivandrum at periodic intervals. Taxis are available at Trivandrum Central Station and Airport.
Worth seeing
Freshwater Springs of the river Kallar. A deer park is there at the mountain top. Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary Lion Safari & Deer Park Golden Valley Agasthiya Biological Park Ponmudi Crest Meenmutti falls lies close to the place.
Things to do
Trekking and hiking in the lush mountains. Agasthyar Hills is close to it and passes are available in the month of January and February.
