Northwest Los Angeles

Northwest Los Angeles or Northwest of Downtown is a group of neighborhoods near the central area of Los Angeles, California that are north and west of the city center of Los Angeles, California.

This name for the area has been in use off and on for over 100 years, originally applying to Angelino Heights and gradually shifting northwesterly as those areas were built out.

Getting to Northwest Los Angeles

Hollywood-Burbank Airport is the closest airport to this region of Los Angeles, but Los Angeles International Airport offers the wider range of flights. The area is roughly bounded by an inverted triangle created by the 101 freeway to the west, the 5 freeway to the east, and Griffith Park to the north, and both freeways have multiple exits into the area. The 2 freeway begins/ends in Northwest Los Angeles.

Where to eat

In East Hollywood you can find countless "pupuserias". These thick, hand-made corn tortillas come with quesillo (Salvadorean cheese), pork, chicken, rice, beans, or "queso con loroco" (cheese and vine flower bud). Just look for signs that say "pupuserias." They usually run around $1.50-2 a pupusa. A very delicious food. East Hollywood's Little Armenia district has a few excellent cheap food options.

  • Get inAir taxi and air charter companies including Los Angeles Private Jets can access private aircraft at any of L.A.'s private aviation airports, as well as planes in your area for flights to Los Angeles.
  • Get inIf you're thinking of using Metrolink to day trip on the weekend, you'll want to get the $10 weekend day pass, which is good for unlimited travel on Metrolink (and connecting transit) on either Saturday or Sunday.
  • Get inLong Beach also has party boats for large groups such as the Majorca and Ibizza by OnBoat, https://onboat.co/product/long-beach-yacht-charter-115-feet-party-yacht-majorca/ San Pedro has a cruise ship terminal that all of the major cruise ship lines (except Carnival) sail from.
