Ialysos

Ialysos is a town and a former municipality on the island of Rhodes, in the Dodecanese, Greece.

Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Rhodes, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 16.7 km2. It is the second-largest town on the island of Rhodes, having a population of approximately 13,000. Ialysos is located eight kilometres west of the town of Rhodes, the island's capital, on the island's northwestern coast.

Getting to Ialysos

The Rhodes International Airport (RHO IATA) or Diagoras International Airport. "Diagoras" (Greek: Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Ρόδου, "Διαγόρας") is 14 km to the south west of Ixia. Paradisi and Theologos (Tholos) lies a few kilometres further down the coast and past the airport.

Worth seeing

Ialysos is one of the most important archaeological sites on the island. Located on the hill of Filerimos, this site would probably be the most important reason for visiting this area. The remains of the temple of Zeus and Athena Poliada and the remnants of the Byzantine fortifications can be seen.

Things to do

Water sports, shopping and visiting the restaurants seem to be popular activities with visitors to this part of the island. The beach can get rather windy with large waves. Windsurfing Ixia is suitable for wind surfing and sailing.
