Hungnam
Hŭngnam (Korean: 흥남) is a district of Hamhung, the second largest city in North Korea.
It is a port city on the eastern coast on the Korean East Sea. It is only 13 kilometres (8 mi) from the slightly inland city of Hamhung. In 2005, the former city became a ward of Hamhung.
Getting to Hungnam
As with anywhere else in North Korea, getting into the city will be only possible as part of an official organised tour. Apparently some tours do include Hamhung on their itinerary.
Worth seeing
Hamhung Grand Theatre. The largest theatre in North Korea
Things to do
Hamhung Water Park (On the bank of the River Songchon). Apparently covering tens of thousands of square meters, this water park comes equipped with several slides, indoor swimming pool and indoor wading pool. Price unknown.
Where to eat
Throughout Korea (both North and South), Hamhung is famous for the special tangy version of cold noodles known as raengmyeon (랭면).
