Halifax

Halifax, officially the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), is the capital and most populous municipality of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, and the most populous municipality in Atlantic Canada.

It consists of four former municipalities that were amalgamated in 1996: Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, and Halifax County.

Getting around Halifax the local way

  • Get inGoing east on 104 takes you to Cape Breton or, alternatively, the ferry to Prince Edward Island.

  • Get aroundThe Halifax to Dartmouth ferry dates back to 1752.
  • Get aroundFor the same cost as bus fare, one can take the ferry back and forth between Dartmouth and Halifax, this is an excellent (and cheap) way to take in the skyline views, spot ships, and mingle with locals.
  • Get aroundThe Halifax-Woodside Ferry only runs Monday to Friday, there is little to do, and few places to go from the Woodside terminal.
  • Go nextCharter flights leave from Halifax to Sable Island, 300 km offshore in the Atlantic Ocean.
