The village is at the junction of the B1053 and B1051 roads. The village includes a primary school, two places of worship and one public house. It is located 3 miles (5 km) northeast of the small town of Thaxted, and 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Saffron Walden, its post town. At the 2021 census the parish had a population of 579.
