Getting around El Nido the local way
Almost everyone arrives one of three ways: a five-hour shared van up the Palawan highway from Puerto Princesa, a fast ferry across open sea from Coron, or a small turboprop into Lio airport, which one airline serves. On the ground the town runs on tricycles with semi-official zone fares, hired tricycles and rented scooters for the northern beaches, a couple of vans a day to the east coast at Sibaltan, and the bangkas of the Bacuit Bay tours, which are the only way to reach the islands.
- 01Puerto Princesa – El Nido shared vansminibus
Puerto Princesa airport or San Jose bus terminal to the El Nido van terminal opposite the public market, between El Nido Town and Corong Corong
- Where
- Touts meet every flight at Puerto Princesa airport and will sell you a seat on the spot; this is the expensive way to buy it. Cheaper is to walk out of the terminal, take a multicab to San Jose terminal on the north edge of the city, and buy a seat from one of the van companies there. Wikivoyage names Fortwally, Eulen Joy and Lexxus as the long-standing operators; Lakkbay and Palajuanders also run the route now. Vans do not leave until full, they stop once at a roadside restaurant, and they pick locals up along the way. Drivers overtake hard on a winding road, so sit in the front row if you are prone to motion sickness. Taxi and tricycle drivers at the airport earn commission on chartered vans, so say clearly that you want the terminal, not a charter.
- When
- Very frequent. Fortwally lists 14 departures a day from Puerto Princesa airport between 03:00 and 19:00; Eulen Joy lists 7 between 05:00 and 17:30; Lexxus lists 7 between 07:00 and 17:00. Return departures from El Nido run on a similar spread from about 04:00 to 18:30
- Fare (2026)
- Operator fares filed in September 2026: Fortwally ₱685, Lexxus ₱650, Eulen Joy ₱742 per seat. Bought at the airport curbside expect ₱700–800 in 2026; bought at San Jose terminal roughly ₱500. A multicab from the airport to San Jose terminal is about ₱11. A private van for the whole vehicle runs ₱5,000–6,000
- Takes
- 4h 30m to 5h 30m for 238–280 km
- Season
- Year-round. The highway is sealed the whole way; heavy rain in the June–October habagat slows it rather than closing it
- Booking
- Walk up at San Jose terminal or the El Nido terminal, or book a seat online through 12Go, Bookaway or the operators. Hotels and the Art Cafe travel centre in El Nido sell tickets for the southbound run

- 02Cherry Bus coaches from Puerto Princesabus
Cherry Bus terminal in Puerto Princesa to the Cherry Bus terminal in El Nido, stopping at Roxas and Taytay
- Where
- Cherry Bus moved out of San Jose terminal in early 2023 and now leaves from Puerto Princesa's newer central terminal at Irawan, about 12 km from the airport. Get there by multicab for around ₱30 or tricycle for around ₱250. The buses are the slow, comfortable option: air-conditioned, reclining Lazyboy and Deluxe seats on the better runs, toilet on board. In El Nido they use their own terminal near the market. Ask to be dropped at the bus terminal and not beside a chartered van, which is the standard commission trick.
- When
- Four departures a day from Puerto Princesa in the 2026 timetable: 07:00 economy non-aircon, 09:00 regular aircon, 11:00 Lazyboy, 21:30 Lazyboy. Six a day back from El Nido: 08:00, 09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 21:30 and 22:00, mixing Lazyboy and Deluxe. Wikivoyage's older note of a bus every two hours from 04:00 to 22:00 no longer matches the published timetable
- Fare (2026)
- 2026 Cherry Bus rates: Economy non-aircon ₱651, Regular aircon ₱840, Lazyboy ₱998. One 2026 guide quotes ₱800–900 aircon and about ₱700 non-aircon. Luggage over 15 kg is charged
- Takes
- 6 hours on the operator timetable; travellers report 7–9 hours depending on stops
- Season
- Year-round, daily
- Booking
- Buy at the terminal, or online through Biyaheroes, PHBus or 12Go. Check in 45 minutes before departure

- 03Coron – El Nido fast ferriesspeedboat
Coron Ferry Terminal, Busuanga, to El Nido Ferry Terminal beside the town beach
- Where
- Four companies were sailing this crossing in 2026: Montenegro Shipping Lines, Jomalia Shipping, Atienza Interisland and Phimal. Buy at the terminal ticket offices, at the Art Cafe travel centre in El Nido, or online. Jomalia runs the largest hulls and rolls least; Phimal is the smallest and cheapest. This is open sea and the boats rock. Anyone offering a different boat, particularly a bangka, is selling you an unsafe overnight crossing – travellers have been put on one and taken nine to ten hours. From El Nido the terminal is a walk from town or a ₱25-per-person tricycle from Corong Corong.
- When
- Coron to El Nido: Montenegro 06:00 daily, Atienza 07:00 daily, Jomalia 07:30 daily plus 13:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, Phimal 08:20 daily. El Nido to Coron: Montenegro 12:00, Atienza 12:30, Jomalia 12:30 plus 08:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, Phimal 13:00
- Fare (2026)
- 2026 one-way fares: Jomalia ₱2,850, Montenegro ₱2,816, Atienza ₱2,800–2,816. Phimal is cheaper. Wikivoyage recorded Montenegro at ₱1,760 in an earlier year, so treat that as out of date. Port fee about ₱20 paid at the terminal and not included in the ticket. Coron charges a ₱200 environmental fee on arrival
- Takes
- 3h 30m to 4 hours scheduled, 5 hours in swell
- Season
- Year-round, but the Coast Guard suspends sailings in rough weather and the operators cancel at short notice. Jomalia suspended all El Nido–Coron operations from 14 March 2026 until further notice on a weather advisory, and Atienza cancelled individual sailings the same year. Amihan swell from November to March and typhoons from June to November are the usual causes
- Booking
- Book online through 12Go, Barkota or Ferryscanner, or buy the moment you arrive in either town. Tickets sell out five days ahead around Christmas, Holy Week and the April–May peak

- 04El Nido (Lio) Airport and its single airlinescheduled flight
Lio Airport, ENI, beside Lio Beach, about 4 km north of El Nido Town
- Where
- A private airstrip on the Ayala-owned Lio estate, with one open-air terminal and one airline. AirSWIFT, now owned by Cebu Pacific Air, flies small turboprops to Clark, Cebu, Busuanga for Coron, Panglao for Bohol and Caticlan for Boracay. Direct Manila flights ended in 2026 and were moved to Clark, three to four hours from Manila by road. From the terminal, tricycles are the only transport; drivers wait outside and the ride into town takes 15–30 minutes. A local rule now limits each tricycle to two passengers.
- When
- Clark to El Nido runs roughly 5 to 10 flights a day, about 05:00 to 17:00. Cebu is about one a day. Coron and Bohol are 2 or 3 flights a week each
- Fare (2026)
- Clark–El Nido usually ₱4,500–7,000 one way in 2026, occasionally under ₱4,500 booked early. Coron–El Nido usually ₱3,000–4,000. Tricycle from the airport to town or Corong Corong ₱300–350
- Takes
- Clark 1h 30m, Cebu 1h 40m, Coron 25 minutes
- Season
- Year-round. The strip has minimal infrastructure and flights are cancelled in bad weather, so leave a buffer day before an international connection
- Booking
- Book online well ahead – the aircraft are small and sell out. The Art Cafe travel centre in El Nido is a general sales agent and will ticket you in person

- 05Tricycles and their zone farestuk tuk
El Nido Town, the port, Corong Corong, Las Cabañas and Maremegmeg, Lio Beach and the airport
- Where
- Tricycles are everywhere in town and wait at the port, the market, the bus and van terminal and the airport. There are two ways to ride: a shared or regular trip, where you pay per person and the driver picks others up, and a special trip, where you hire the whole vehicle. Say which you want before you get in. Drivers quote the special-trip rate to foreigners by default. Shared tricycles going as far as Las Cabañas are hard to get because many drivers will not take tourists that far.
- When
- On demand through the day and most of the evening
- Fare (2026)
- Semi-official rates as reported in 2026: within town ₱20 per person shared, or at least ₱50 for the whole tricycle on a short ride; port to town ₱50 for the vehicle; Corong Corong ₱50, or ₱100 to the far end, ₱10 per person shared; Las Cabañas ₱150 special trip or ₱20 per person shared; Lio Beach ₱250–300; the airport ₱300–350. Outside town generally ₱100–200. A tricycle hired for a whole day of beach-hopping runs about ₱1,200
- Season
- Year-round. Fares rise after dark and in heavy rain
- Booking
- None. Agree the fare and whether it is per person or per tricycle before boarding

- 06Katar vans to Sibaltan, and highway jeepneys and busesminibus
El Nido terminal opposite the market to Sibaltan and the Dewil valley villages on the east coast; separately, southbound jeepneys and buses along the Puerto Princesa highway
- Where
- Katar Van Transport is the only company running El Nido to Sibaltan and Puerto Princesa to Sibaltan. They are the same vans that come up from Irawan terminal in Puerto Princesa, so they can arrive full. The El Nido terminal is chaotic, so phone or text the company or have your Sibaltan guesthouse reserve the seat. Separately, any bus or jeepney leaving the El Nido terminal towards Puerto Princesa will drop you along the highway – this is the cheap way to reach Las Cabañas and the villages south of town.
- When
- Katar runs two or three vans a day each way, timings unreliable. Southbound jeepneys and buses run through the day from the El Nido terminal
- Fare (2026)
- El Nido–Sibaltan ₱300 per seat, ₱2,500 to hire the whole van, 2026. Puerto Princesa–Sibaltan direct about ₱800. A highway jeepney or bus hop to Las Cabañas is about ₱20. A negotiated tricycle to Sibaltan is ₱800–1,000
- Takes
- El Nido to Sibaltan 1 hour nominal, over 2 hours in practice because the vans stop constantly. Puerto Princesa direct to Sibaltan 7–8 hours
- Season
- Year-round. Sibaltan is exposed to the amihan and blows hard from November to March, which is what brings the kitesurfers
- Booking
- Call or text Katar on +63 906 648 4602, +63 905 432 5019 or +63 977 718 3502, or ask your accommodation to hold a seat

- 07Getting to Nacpan and Duli: vans, hired tricycles and rented scootersprivate hire
El Nido Town and Corong Corong north to Nacpan and Calitang, then on to Duli, Mariposa, Dagmay and Bucana
- Where
- There is no scheduled public transport to Nacpan or Duli. Three ways to go. Agencies and hotels in El Nido Town and Corong Corong sell a seat on a round-trip van to Nacpan, leaving roughly hourly through the morning. A tricycle will take you and wait, which is slower – about 75 minutes each way to Nacpan. Or rent a scooter, which is what most people do, and which is the only realistic way to reach Duli and the beaches beyond it. The road to Nacpan is sealed except for the last stretch; the Duli track is dirt and turns slippery after rain. The same operators sell a packaged inland tour that strings Nacpan, Duli, Lio and Las Cabañas together with lunch.
- When
- Vans to Nacpan roughly every hour in the morning; tricycles and scooters on demand
- Fare (2026)
- Round-trip van seat to Nacpan ₱600–700 per person. Tricycle to Nacpan and back with waiting about ₱1,200; a tricycle for a day at Duli about ₱1,500. Scooter hire ₱450–500 a day, less for several days. Nacpan beach entry ₱60 per person, ticket reusable. Bicycle hire ₱400–500 a day
- Takes
- El Nido to Nacpan 17 km, about 50 minutes by scooter and 75 minutes by tricycle; Nacpan to Duli another 30 minutes
- Season
- Year-round. The unsealed sections turn to slurry in the June–October habagat rains, and Duli and Nacpan pick up their surf in the same months
- Booking
- Book the van the day before through any agency or your hotel. Tricycles and scooters are walk-up

- 08Bacuit Bay bangka tours A, B, C and Dtour package
El Nido Town beach or Corong Corong beach out to the Bacuit Archipelago and back the same day
- Where
- Dozens of agencies in El Nido Town sell the same four fixed routes, named A to D, on outrigger bangkas carrying 6 to 30 people. Which beach you leave from depends on where the agency keeps its boat; town to Corong Corong is ten minutes and under ₱50. Book the day before. Big Lagoon on Tour A and Small Lagoon on Tour D are quota-controlled, so the agency has to register your name in advance and you cannot do both in one day. Tour operators are no longer licensed to provide lunch themselves, so food comes from a restaurant.
- When
- Daily. Shared boats leave about 09:00 and are back 15:30–16:30; a private charter can leave from 07:00
- Fare (2026)
- 2026 shared rates by agency: Tour A about ₱1,200, Tour B ₱1,300, Tour C ₱1,400, with the overall range ₱1,200–2,000 per person including lunch. Klook sells Tour A from about ₱950. A private boat is ₱10,000–12,000 for 4–6 people and ₱15,000–17,000 for 8–10. On top: the ₱400 Environmental and Tourism Development Fee, ₱200 each to enter Big or Small Lagoon, and a compulsory kayak at ₱300 for a two-seater or ₱350 for a three-seater
- Takes
- About 6 to 7 hours on the water with four or five stops
- Season
- Year-round, but the Coast Guard decides each morning whether boats sail. Tour C is the furthest out and is the first cancelled when the sea is up. December to May is the settled season; the June–October habagat brings choppier water
- Booking
- Book at any agency the day before, or online through Klook or GetYourGuide. Keep the ₱400 fee receipt – it is issued in your name and lasts several days across tours

- 09Bangka charters and kayaks from Corong Corong beachboat
Corong Corong beach and the northern end of El Nido Town beach out to Seven Commandos, Papaya, Vigan and the nearer coves
- Where
- Walk to the northern end of Corong Corong beach where the fishermen keep their boats and negotiate directly with a boat owner for a drop-off and pickup. This is the way to reach a single beach without buying a whole tour, and it is getting harder as the tour trade absorbs the boats. Agree the pickup time out loud before you pay. The cheaper alternative is a kayak from the same beach; Seven Commandos is 20–30 minutes of paddling from Corong Corong, and the wind and swell pick up from midday, so go early.
- When
- On demand in daylight; nothing scheduled
- Fare (2026)
- Boat charter quotes in 2026 range from about ₱700 round trip for a small boat to Seven Commandos up to ₱1,500 for a larger one, depending on boat size and bargaining. Kayak hire ₱400–500 for a full day. Some beaches charge a mooring fee of around ₱300 if you arrive by boat rather than kayak
- Takes
- 15–30 minutes each way to the nearest beaches
- Season
- Year-round in calm water. Afternoons are windier than mornings, and the habagat months from June to October put more swell into the bay
- Booking
- None. Turn up on the beach and negotiate

Not yet confirmed: No RORO Bus service on the Puerto Princesa – El Nido route could be confirmed for 2025 or 2026. The operator's own websites did not resolve and the route aggregator Pamasahe lists only Cherry Bus on the corridor. Cherry Bus itself sells a Deluxe class on the El Nido to Puerto Princesa direction, which may be what travellers mean by a deluxe coach. Treat RORO Bus as unverified until someone checks the El Nido terminal.; Barkota is a ticketing platform, not a shipping line. It resells Montenegro and others. The El Nido – Coron operators actually sailing in 2026 are Montenegro, Jomalia, Atienza and Phimal.; No published municipal tricycle fare matrix or ordinance for El Nido was found online. The zone fares recorded here come from a DOT-accredited travel centre in town and from a long-running travel guide, both of which describe them as official or standard. The El Nido municipal website returned an error and could not be read.; There are no Nacpan or Duli jeepneys. Every source consulted says there is no public transport to either beach: it is a rented scooter, a hired tricycle, or an agency van. Jeepneys and buses on the Puerto Princesa highway will drop you at Las Cabañas and the villages south of town, which may be the source of the confusion.; The boat tours A to D do not serve Sibaltan. Sibaltan is on the opposite, east coast of the peninsula and is reached by road. The tours do leave from Corong Corong beach as well as the town beach, so Corong Corong is a departure point rather than a destination.; Sources disagree on how long the ₱400 Environmental and Tourism Development Fee lasts: Wikivoyage says 10 days, a 2026 guide says 5. Ask when you pay and keep the receipt.; Habal-habal motorcycle taxis are widely used elsewhere in Palawan but no source consulted documents a habal-habal stand or fare in El Nido town, where tricycles dominate. Unconfirmed.; Fares for the Coron ferries moved sharply upward after fuel price rises – Wikivoyage still carries ₱1,760 for Montenegro against ₱2,816 in 2026 sources. Assume the higher figures and expect fuel surcharges.; Timetables for the Katar vans to Sibaltan are not published anywhere. Two or three a day is what travellers report. Phone the company..
The field note on El Nido reads this entry in full, one option at a time, with every source beside it.
We have no description for this place yet. The planner still knows how to get there.
