Downtown Core

The Downtown Core is the historic urban centre of Singapore and the country's primary commercial district.

It contains the main central business district (CBD), with a high concentration of skyscrapers in Raffles Place, Tanjong Pagar and Marina Bay. The Downtown Core is one of the eleven planning areas within the highly urbanised Central Area and forms the core of Singapore's central city zone. It is bounded by Rochor to the north, Kallang to the northeast, Marina East and Marina South to the east, Straits View to the southeast, Bukit Merah to the south, as well as Outram, Museum and Singapore River to the west.

Getting around Downtown Core the local way

  • Get inA similar scheme is available for citizens of India who have a valid visa or residence permit issued by Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the United States (Schengen visas issued by other countries do not count), and have an onward plane, ferry or cruise ticket to a third country.
  • Get inFerries link Singapore with the neighbouring Indonesian province of Riau Islands, and the Malaysian state of Johor.
  • Get inSingapore has two terminals that handle international ferries: near Sentosa and near Changi Airport.
  • Get inHarbourFront Ferry Terminal is located inside HarbourFront Centre shopping mall, not to be confused with the adjoining VivoCity.
  • Get inTanah Merah Ferry Terminal is located south of Changi Airport.
  • Get inFrom there, take bus 35/35M to the ferry terminal.
  • Get inIf you are arriving at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, getting a taxi can be very difficult due to the remote location and 200 other people hailing them simultaneously; it's often faster to take bus 35/M a few stops to the nearest MRT station and try your luck there.
  • Get inThe bus calls twice in its route at the ferry terminal and visitors must pre-register to enter the logistics park ALPS.
