
Dharwad
Dharwad is a city located in the northwestern part of the Indian state of Karnataka.
It is the headquarters of the Dharwad district of Karnataka and forms a contiguous urban area with the city of Hubballi. It was merged with Hubballi in 1962 to form the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad. It covers an area of 213 km2 (82 sq mi) and is located 430 km (270 mi) northwest of Bangalore, on NH-48, between Bangalore and Pune.
Getting to Dharwad
Dharwad is connected to Karnataka's state capital Bengaluru, Pune and Mumbai which is the commercial capital of India by National Highway 48 (NH 48) which used to be known as Pune-Bangalore (PB) road. Also National highway 52 (NH 52) connects Hubli Dharwad to National highway 66 near Ankola via Kalaghatgi and Yellapura.

You can get trains from Margaon, Kolhapur, Miraj, Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Mysore, Davangere to Dharwad.

Where to eat
Girmit is the famous local snack made from puffed rice. Local vegetarian meal at Basappa Khanavali in front of District court. Also there are several Khanavali's which serve vegetarian lunch and dinner. There are good vegetarian restaurants which serve South Indian dishes like Upavan restaurant, Kamath, Brindavan, Megha Darshini. Dharwad Peda's a unique and tasty sweet prepared by Thakur Peda shop at Line Bazaar.
