Devon
Devon is a ceremonial county in South West England.
It is bordered by the Bristol Channel to the north, Somerset and Dorset to the east, the English Channel to the south, and Cornwall to the west. The city of Plymouth is the largest settlement.
Getting to Devon
Exeter has two main train stations serving the city centre, St. Davids (where most long-distance services call), and Central. Central, unsurprisingly, is closer to the centre, but the two are within a short walk of one another. If visiting from Cornwall, the railway will take you across the Royal Albert Bridge from Saltash (in Cornwall) into Devon.

Worth seeing
The Dorset and East Devon Coast is more commonly known as the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage site Lundy Island, an island in the Bristol Channel, an important conservation site with England's only statutory Marine Nature Reserve Buckfast Abbey in Buckfastleigh is part of an active Benedictine monastery. Devon's Crealy Great Adventure Park in Exeter is Devon's top theme park.
Things to do
Fly Fishing,. The rivers around Devon have Trout, Sea Trout and Salmon. Guides can provide equipment and instruction on fly fishing for all experience levels. For Dartmoor and South Devon there is Flyfishing Devon. North Devon Coastal Road.
Where to eat
South Devon Crab is regarded as some of the best in the world and its stocks are plentiful and sustainably fished. There are plenty of fantastic restaurants, cafes and pubs to try this local produce.
Getting around Devon the local way
- Get inBrittany Ferries carry vehicles and foot passengers to Plymouth from Roscoff, Saint-Malo (both France), or Santander (Spain).
- Get inPoole in Dorset is by road from Exeter, and receives Brittany Ferries from Cherbourg (France) and Condor Ferries from Saint Helier (Jersey).
- Get inThe other English Channel ferry ports are within a few hours' drive of Devon.
