It has a population of 1,191 inhabitants in an area of 5.46 km2. The castello is governed by a Captain and a seven-member Junta, with Marino Rosti serving as Captain since 2020. Formerly known as Pennarossa until the administrative reforms of 1943–1944, Chiesanuova borders two San Marinese municipalities and three Italian communes, and is divided into seven curazie (parishes).
