Camps Bay

Camps Bay is an affluent suburb of Cape Town, South Africa.

It is also the small bay on the west coast of the Cape Peninsula, after which the suburb is named.

Get in

Getting to Camps Bay

Follow the coastal road from the Cape Town CBD westwards around Table Mountain or use the beautiful panoramic Chapmans Peak Drive to get there. There is no public transport yet, so your only choice would be sightseeing tourist buses that stop from time to time to give you the chance to hop off and later on again.

Worth seeing

Beautiful view on the Twelve Apostles, a rock formation of the Table Mountain massive. The beachfront with its restaurants and bars and the beach. Theatre on the Bay, 1 Link Street, Camps Bay, info@theatreonthebay.co.za.

Things to do

Enjoy the atmosphere in this exclusive town and relax at the beach. Maybe visit some of the restaurants to spoil yourself. Do some mountain hiking to get some great views. Paraglide down from Lions Head or Signal Hill

Where to eat

Camps Bay has a number of restaurants and cafes. In total there are probably about thirty, the majority of which are opposite the beach, stretched along Victoria Road, which is the main road of Camps Bay (runs parallel to the beach front). Some well known restaurants are Theos, Codfather (for seafood) and Summerville. Blues. An institution with a very well known brand. The restaurant has been around for a long time.

Getting around Camps Bay the local way

  • Get aroundMinibus taxis are used widely by locals but tourists are usually discouraged from using them, except for the Green Point - Sea Point - Clifton - Camps Bay route that is frequently used by tourists.
  • Get aroundSome minibus taxi operators have noticed the upsurge in the tourist market and are starting to provide safe and legal alternatives to the traditional minibus taxis.
  • Get aroundThey are more expensive than traditional minibus taxis, but still far cheaper than metered taxis.
  • Go nextCape Town is perfectly placed for many one or two day trips, which offer a variety in experiencing fresh landscapes and cultures.
  • Go nextThe tour takes 3½ hours including the ferry ride to and from the island.
