Barwick-in-Elmet
Village in West Yorkshire, England

Barwick-in-Elmet

Barwick-in-Elmet is a village in civil parish of Barwick in Elmet and Scholes, in the Leeds district, in West Yorkshire, England, 7 miles (11 km) east of Leeds city centre.

It is one of many places in the area to be explicitly associated with the ancient Brythonic Kingdom of Elfed, the others being Scholes-in-Elmet and Sherburn-in-Elmet, while other Medieval records also show the "-in-Elmet" suffix was once used for other nearby settlements like Clifford, Micklefield, Sutton, Kirkby Wharfe, Burton Salmon and Saxton, though the current modern names dropped the suffix.
