Ampel

Ampel is a town and an urban kelurahan in the Semampir District (kecamatan) of Surabaya City, East Java, Indonesia.

The town is known for its historic Ampel Mosque, and more than 98% of its population are Muslim, with many of them being Yemeni Arabs in Indonesia originating from Hadhramaut.

Getting around Ampel the local way

  • Get inPasar Turi serves executive air-conditioned trains from Jakarta, Semarang, and all of Java's northern coast; while Gubeng is the terminus station for mainly economy class trains and trains for southern and eastern Java, including Yogyakarta, Bandung, and Banyuwangi (tickets Rp 290,000) for the ferry to Bali.
