Port Said is a port city that lies in northeast Egypt extending about 30 km (19 mi) along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, straddling the west bank of the northern mouth of the Suez Canal.

The city is the capital of the Port Said Governorate and forms the majority of the governorate, comprising seven of the governorate's eight administrative regions. In 2024, it had a population of 790,000 people.

Port Said Lighthouse is one of the most important architectural and tourist landmarks in the city of Port Said in Egypt. Considered a unique example for the evolution of architecture during the nineteenth century in the city, the lighthouse was designed by François Coignet at the request of the Khedive of Egypt and Sudan, Ismail the Magnificent.

What Wikivoyage says to see
Most obvious sights includes the port, where some ancient facilities remain. Also, the passing of the huge container ships and supertankers into the canal is an impressive sight. The rest of the old town, bombed during the Suez crisis, is also worth a visit. The local bazaar is a great way of spending a day looking at all the shops.

Things to do
Football: Al Masry FC (aka "Green Eagles") play soccer in the Premier League, Egypt's top tier. Their traditional home was Port Said Stadium on the north corniche, but in 2021 this was demolished. They'll be ground-sharing until a new stadium is complete, perhaps in 2024.

Italian Restaurant, Helnan Port Said Hotel, El Corniche Atef Sadai St. The service is good and the food is cooked fresh for you whilst you wait. Choice of alcohol is limited and expensive though.
