The city covers an area of 997.43 square kilometres (385.11 sq mi), located 798 kilometres (496 mi) northeast of Kuching and 329 kilometres (204 mi) southwest of Kota Kinabalu. Miri is the second largest city in Sarawak, with a population of 356,900 as of 2020. The city is also the capital of Miri District, Miri Division.

Things to do
Esplanade Beach. Local's favourite beach front located at Luak Bay. Miri's beaches are nothing to shout about, but if you really want to go to the beach, this would be your best bet. Miri City Hall. The rooftop is open to the public from 5:30 to 7pm for sunset viewing. It's also nice to walk around in Miri Central Park below. San Ching Tian Temple. Once the largest Taoist temple in South East Asia.
