Alappuzha or Alleppey is a city and municipality on the Laccadive Sea in the southern Indian state of Kerala. It is the headquarters of Alappuzha district, located about 62 km (39 mi) south of the commercial city of Kochi and 152 km (94.4 mi) northwest of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. As per the 2011 Indian census, Alappuzha has a population of 240,991 people, and a population density of 3,675/km2 (9,520/sq mi).

Arcadia Regency, a 4-star hotel has just opened in 2006 but has priced meals at really low prices to attract customers. Biju (houseboat in Alleppey), haripad,. The houseboats are used as grain barges alongside the backwaters. At some time, the houseboats were used as living quarters by the royalty.
