About 120 km (75 mi) from the provincial capital Chengdu, Leshan is a transportation hub and regional center in southern Sichuan. A historical and cultural city, Leshan is famous for world heritage sites Mount Emei and Leshan Giant Buddha, as well as for its rich food culture.

The Leshan Giant Buddha is a 71-meter tall stone statue, built between 712 and 804 AD. It is carved out of a cliff face of Cretaceous red bed sandstones that lies at the confluence of the Min River and Dadu River in the southern part of Sichuan Province in China, near the city of Leshan.

As people from across China visit Chengdu for its culinary delights, every weekend thousands of Chengdu natives take the trip to Leshan to engorge themselves on some of the best food in China. Some popular local dishes include: Tian Pi Ya / You Tang Ya (甜皮鸭 / 油烫鸭) - roast duck, similar to Beijing Duck, with a crispier, sweeter skin.
