It is located approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) north-west of the city centre. It is the site of Blarney Castle, home of the legendary Blarney Stone. Blarney is part of the Dáil constituency of Cork North-Central. It is surrounded by the suburban villages of Tower, Cloghroe and Kerry Pike, all on the outskirts of Cork City.

Get in

## Getting to Blarney

Blarney is 9 km northwest of Cork along N20. Bus Éireann 215 runs from Cork (multiple stops) taking 20 min to Blarney village and continuing west to Cloghroe. It's every 30 min M-Sa and hourly on Sunday. Get off when you see the Woollen Mills to your left and the church to the right. Blarney lost its railway in 1934, a narrow gauge line to Cork.

See

## Worth seeing

1. Blarney Castle There was probably a wooden fort here by the 10th century, and a stone castle was built in 1210 but destroyed.

Do

## Things to do

Muskerry Golf Club has two 18-hole courses, the McKenzie and the Burren. It's 3 km west at Tower Model Village, which sounds more interesting than it is. There's no trace of a tower, and the "model" means the 20th-century concept of a planned suburb, there are no tiny plastic figures on platforms waiting for a Hornby Dublo train to pull in. Blarney Golf Club is a pitch & putt 2 km northeast by the caravan park.

Eat

## Where to eat

1. Muskerry Arms The Square, Blarney T23 XE95 (by Castle),.

How locals move

## Getting around Blarney the local way

- Get in There are no through-buses to Ireland from Great Britain or the continent: change in London for the ferry ports.
- Get in Buses run from Rosslare ferry harbour via Wexford, Waterford, Dungarvan and Youghal to Cork, and continue to Kerry.
- Get in Summer ferries from Roscoff and Santander sail to Cork, landing at Ringaskiddy 7 km south of the city.
- Get around But they also have long day trips out to far-flung spots like Mizen Head and Ring of Kerry, impractical to reach without your own car.
