It is located in northern Finland north of the Arctic Circle within the Lapland region. The municipality has a population of 6,973 and covers an area of 8,262.97 square kilometres (3,190.35 sq mi) of which 168.71 km2 (65.14 sq mi) is water. Do ## Things to do Most people come to Kittilä for downhill skiing in the winter. They head for the nearby ski centres Levi and Ylläs. There are also a host of other outdoor activities offered by tour providers, see below, sorted by village. You can also go hiking or cross-country skiing on your own in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. The nearest trailheads are around Aakennustunturi, both trails and skiing tracks. 1.
